Colombo Trip

December 26-27, 2024

The MCH children went on an unforgettable two-day adventure during their Christmas vacation!

On the first day we visited Leisure World, the only waterpark in Sri Lanka. The kids LOVED swimming and playing in the water. That evening, we visited Galle Face beach, a famous destination in Colombo.

The next day we took the children to the Dehiwala Zoo. They loved seeing all the animals. In the afternoon we went to Mount Lavinia Beach, where we played cricket, tossed a frisbee, and swam in the waves until sunset. The kids had so much fun, and slept on the long bus ride home.

This trip was possible thanks to the specific generosity of two donors. If you are interested in sponsoring an outing for the MCH children, please contact us to arrange a directed donation.

Christmas Celebration

December 25, 2024

We had a wonderful Christmas this year at MCH!

In the morning, we had a Christmas service. The message was given by Mr. Joshua Isaiah.

The ministry KidzNet donated money for the children’s clothes, and everyone wore their new clothes on Christmas.

We invited some neighbors and friends of MCH to come for a special lunch.

After the lunch, we opened our “stockings” and presents! The children each colored a manila envelope as their stocking, and on Christmas morning it was filled with sweets and small toys. A donor provided many toys and board games, which we opened on Christmas morning!

December Holidays

December 2024

This year the Sri Lankan government allotted the entire month of December as a holiday. This allowed for a special time of rest and respite at MCH.

Our outside tutors continued to come, and the students still had exams to study for, which would take place when they returned to school.

But we were able to use the extra time to learn about the Christmas story, watch Bible cartoons (SuperBook), color and play with some of our Christmas toys (which we opened early!).

It was a blessed time at MCH!

Main Hall Renovation

November-December 2024

Thanks to the generosity of three key donors, Brother Dominic. Mrs. Maureen, and the St. James Church of Alperton, we were able to carry out some much needed renovations of our main hall.

This included a new roof, which was very necessary and stopped the severe leaking during the rain.

The walls were also replastered and repainted, which brought a clean and safe enviroment. We use the main hall constantly, for classess, meals, worship services, and study time. These improvements really made a difference in improving the quality of life for kids at MCH.

Children's Day Trip to Kandy

October 1, 2024

For Children’s Day, the ministry KidzNet sponsored a special outing.

We took the train to Kandy, which was a 3 hour journey. The children enjoyed riding the train and looking at the view!

When we arrived at Kandy, we went to the Royal Botanic Gardens in Peradeniya. This world-famous garden houses more than 4,000 varities of plants and has large open lawns, where the children enjoyed playing.

In the afternoon we had a picnic lunch, and then played some games. We caught the 5:30 train back to Hatton, after a full day of fun.

Visit to Sigiriya

September 26, 2024

In September, the probation department (social welfare) sponsored a trip to Sigiriya, an archeological and historical wonder of Sri Lanka. The remnants of an ancient fortress rest on top of an 180m high plateau, giving an amazing view of the surrounding area.

We woke up very early and left Hatton at 4 a.m., so we could complete the hike before the heat of the day. All the children, even the small ones, were able to climb to the top and enjoy the spectacular view. Fortunately we had very good weather, and it was not too hot.

We got back home to Hatton around 11:30pm, making it a very long, but very memorable day!

Farewell to Aunty Therese, Welcome to Rebecca Richard

July 15, 2024

Our longterm supporter, KidzNet, underwent a leadership change this July.

The founder, Sister Therese Koelmeyer, began her retirement in her native country, USA. We at MCH extend our deepest gratitude for her incredible dedication to children’s ministry in Sri Lanka. We want to thank her for her years of service and the profound impact she has had on our children and community.

We are also delighted to welcome Mrs. Rebecca Richard, who will be taking over the leadership of KidzNet. We are confident that her passion and commitment will continue to drive the mission forward.

Nuwara Eliya Outing

April 12, 2024

April is the best time to visit the up-country town of Nuwara Eliya. During this magic month, the normally gloomy weather becomes sunny, and all the flowers burst into blooms! This past April, the Hatton police deparment sponsored MCH to visit Nuwara Eliya.

The weather during our visit was beautiful and sunny. We visited the famous Hakgala Botanic Gardens and enjoyed the beautiful flower displays.

After the gardens, we visited the historic downtown. We made a point to visit Holy Trinity Church, where our founder Rev. John Isaiah served as an Anglican priest.

After lunch and some ice cream, we headed back home.
